Interpersonal Communication Assessment

Continuing to...roll...with last email's theme about using dice in the classroom, I want to share a summative assessment: a skill practice demonstration focused on refusal skills.
I know many other health educators use dice in a similar way: Jessica Matheson, Andy Milne, and more. I can't take credit for the initial idea. I can share with you how I've taken that idea, remixed it, and aligned it with the National Health Education Standard for interpersonal communication.
For context, by the time we reach this assessment, students have already learned about the effects alcohol and marijuana have on the developing teenage brain. I use resources from Ask, Listen, Learn and the Stanford Cannabis/Marijuana Awareness & Prevention Toolkit to help deliver content in this unit.
My students have already practiced refusal skills: writing them out and performing quick demonstrations, infusing functional content knowledge into them, and finally, demonstrating them as a summative assessment. Most of the skill practices throughout the unit are ungraded, but one is. These all lead to the graded summative assessment.
Students prepare multiple refusal skills to refuse both alcohol and marijuana and when it's time to go "live," they roll the dice! I have large dice similar to these and have the three refusal skills on them twice. The students have to demonstrate the refusal skill they roll.
I haven't updated this assessment to meet the new National Health Education Standards yet. We also have our new standards in Massachusetts that just launched this year, so if you check this Google Doc again next school year, you'll see it will look a little different. It's not the prettiest document, either, but it works!
