Free Webinar This Week!

Happy Monday!

In today's edition of the Level Up Health Education Newsletter, I want to share a free webinar opportunity with you. I've also migrated my newsletter to ConvertKit. I'm looking forward to providing resources for you over the next few months; in addition to this newsletter, I'm developing some email courses and other learning opportunities, so stay tuned!

It's been an interesting start to the school year. My colleague and I found out that due to some scheduling changes, our school is now offering two different health classes per grade level! The good news is that most students will now have two different health courses on their schedule, every other day, for two trimesters. The hectic news: we had to come up with new curriculum! We started by dividing our current curriculum in half; we each took portions into our "Health 'A'" and "Health 'B'" courses. We're creating new units now. There's some overlap with skills or content, but at the end of the day, it's great students get more time in health class!

On Thursday this week, I'll be participating in a free webinar with my friend and 2022 National Health Education Teacher of The Year Jessica Matheson and the crew from Ask, Listen, Learn to talk about health literacy and prevention education. If you're interested in joining us, you can click the button below to sign up.

That's all for now. I'll get betting back into the swing of monthly(ish) updates for the rest of the school year. If you have something you'd like to see me write about, just reply to this email and let me know.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Interpersonal Communication Assessment Happy Friday! Continuing to...roll...with last email's theme about using dice in the classroom, I want to share a summative assessment: a skill practice demonstration focused on refusal skills. I know many other health educators use dice in a similar way: Jessica Matheson, Andy Milne, and more. I can't take credit for the initial idea. I can share with you how I've taken that idea, remixed it, and aligned it with the National Health Education Standard...

"Dicebreaker" Questions for the NHES Happy Monday! At SHAPE Cleveland last month, Jessica Matheson and I presented a session called, "50 Tips in 50 Minutes!" We covered 50 different tools, strategies, and resources to help teachers improve their teaching in health education. We had an entire section on using dice based on Jessica's Slow Chat Health blog post from last year. After working to put our presentation together and hearing Jess's ideas, I knew I wanted to use dice more in my...

Happy March! I didn't get an email out in February. I had one ready to send, but I decided to sit on it for a little bit to adjust some of the information I shared before I send it out. In this email, I want to explain how I used a Google tool to scaffold the skill of accessing information in a sixth-grade health class. In my health class, when we cover the content area of puberty in the sixth grade, it's paired with the skill of accessing information from the National Health Education...
